It is native to the Palearctic, including Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. More streamlined and flattened than the more common Dytiscus marginalis (Great diving beetle). The widest part of the body lies behind the centre, which give it a fast droplet shape. dark with green shining and yellow stripes over the borders. The underside of Cybister lateralimarginalis is pale yellow, somewhat transparent and is smoother than the D. marginalis.

Ilgis 30–37 mm. Kūno forma ir spalva panaši į plačiosios dusios, bet mažesnė už pastarąją.
