Dieniniai vidutinio dydžio ir stambūs, drugiai, spalvingais margais sparnais. Priekinės kojos trumpos su neišsivysčiusiomis letenomis. Antenos buožiškos. Randami saulėtose miškų aikštelėse, pievose ir visur, kur gausu žiedų. Vikšrai tamsūs, apaugę šakotais spygliais.
